Territet is one of the most prestigious and sought-after addresses on the entire Swiss Riviera. Situated immediately east of Montreux centre, between the main town and Chillon Castle, Territet combines Belle Époque grandeur, direct lake frontage and exceptional views in a setting of rare beauty.

Character and history

Territet was one of the great resort destinations of the Belle Époque — home to grand hotels, aristocratic villas and the winter residences of European royalty and nobility. The neighbourhood retains much of this heritage: the architecture is predominantly late 19th and early 20th century, the streets are lined with mature trees, and the atmosphere is one of refined residential calm.

The neighbourhood is perhaps best known as the location of the Grand Hôtel Territet, one of the great hotels of the Swiss Riviera, and for its position directly above the lake with views towards Chillon Castle and the Rhône valley.

Property types and prices

Territet is predominantly a villa and apartment market, with a significant proportion of Belle Époque-era buildings that have been converted into apartments or maintained as single-family residences. The building stock is of high quality, and many properties have been carefully restored.

Prices in Territet are among the highest in the Montreux area, reflecting the prestige of the address and the quality of the views. Prime apartments with direct lake views are priced from CHF 3 million to CHF 8 million. Villas and houses with lake frontage or exceptional views can exceed CHF 10 million.

Views and position

The views from Territet are exceptional. The neighbourhood sits directly above the lake, and properties on the lakeside face south-east — looking across the water towards Chillon Castle, the Rhône valley and the French Alps. The combination of the lake, the castle and the mountains creates one of the most dramatic residential views in Switzerland.

The elevated position of many Territet properties — on the hillside above the lake road — provides unobstructed views and a degree of privacy that is difficult to find in the more densely developed Montreux centre.

Practical considerations

Territet is accessible by road and by train — the Territet station on the Montreux-Villeneuve line provides direct connections to Montreux centre and beyond. The neighbourhood is quieter than the main Montreux centre, with fewer commercial amenities immediately at hand, but the centre is within easy walking distance or a short train ride.

Parking is generally easier in Territet than in the main centre, and many properties have private garages or allocated parking spaces.
