Brent is a small village situated above Montreux on the hillside between the town and the higher Alpine areas. It offers a quiet, semi-rural environment with elevated views, larger properties and a genuine village character that is distinct from the more urban Montreux centre.
Character and setting
Brent sits at an altitude of approximately 700–800 metres, above the Montreux urban area and below the higher Alpine villages. The village has a traditional Swiss character — a small community, a church, local amenities and a predominantly residential population. The atmosphere is peaceful and rural, with the sounds and rhythms of a Swiss mountain village rather than a lakeside resort.
The elevated position provides good views over the lake and the surrounding mountains, though the views are less panoramic than those from Glion or the higher areas, as the terrain partially obstructs the lake perspective from some positions.
Property types and prices
Brent is predominantly a house and villa market. Properties tend to be larger than in the lower town, with gardens, terraces and more outdoor space. The building stock includes traditional Swiss chalets and farmhouses as well as more modern residential buildings.
Prices in Brent are generally lower than in the lakeside areas of Montreux, reflecting the distance from the lake and the more rural character. Houses and villas range from CHF 1.2 million to CHF 4 million depending on size, condition and view quality.
Access
Brent is accessible by road from Montreux centre — the journey takes approximately 15 minutes by car. The MOB railway (Montreux-Oberland-Bernois) stops at Brent, providing a direct connection to Montreux main station in approximately 10 minutes. This rail connection makes Brent more accessible than some of the other hillside villages.
A car is generally necessary for daily activities, as the village has limited commercial amenities.
